Central European Subgroup of the Geoscience Information Consortium (CE-GIC)

The Central European Subgroup of the Geoscience Information Consortium (CE-GIC) is a regional subgroup of the Geoscience Information Consortium (GIC), established in 2015. Its purpose aligns closely with that of the NordicGIC subgroup, fostering collaboration and innovation in geoscientific information management across Central Europe.

Members

The current members of the CE-GIC are:

  • Austria: Geosphere Austria
  • Croatia: Croatian Geological Survey (HGI)
  • Czech Republic: Czech Geological Survey (CGS)
  • Hungary: Mining and Geological Survey of Hungary (SARA)
  • Poland: Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI)
  • Romania: Geological Institute of Romania (IGR)
  • Slovakia: State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr (ŠGÚDŠ)
  • Slovenia: Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS)

Objectives

The CE-GIC pursues five key aims:

  • Information Exchange: Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences between Geological Survey Organizations (GSOs) regarding the use and management of geoscientific information systems at a regional level.
  • Forum for Solutions: Provide a platform to present and discuss solutions to challenges faced by Geological Surveys, including best practices in data acquisition, database design, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Data Standards and Formats: Promote the discussion and dissemination of geoscientific data standards, exchange formats, and solutions to operational challenges.
  • Collaborative Initiatives: Create opportunities for collaborative projects that enable data sharing and problem-solving among member surveys.
  • Professional Networking: Foster personal connections between operational staff of GSOs to exchange concrete ideas and address common challenges effectively.
